Julian is an experienced and dedicated mediator working across the full spectrum of Family, Civil & Commercial, Community, SEND and Workplace mediation. This extensive experience of conflict resolution in highly emotive and contentious areas makes him particularly well suited to mediate disputes where there is a significant ‘human’ element but he is equally experienced and willing to mediate other disputes too.
With a sharp, commercially analytical mind, he is a first class communicator, linguist and natural problem solver. He brings a broad life and work experience, humour, insight, psychological and legal awareness together to help parties focus and find workable solutions. Perceptive, empathetic and quick to build trust, he is experienced in negotiating the terrain of power imbalances and cultural and linguistic divisions and his experience across all mediation practices also allows him to adapt the mediation process to best suit the parties.
Accredited as a Civil and Commercial mediator in 2007 and Family, Workplace and Community mediator in 2010, to date he has conducted well over 300 Civil and Commercial, Family, Community and Workplace mediations the vast majority of which have resulted in settlement or partial settlement. Julian holds Professional Indemnity Insurance for cases up to £3M.
Taught and mentored by Robin ap Cynan, Julian holds FMCA status and is able to conduct family mediation where either or both parties are eligible for Legal Aid. Currently head of mediation at Greens, he was formerly a sessional family mediator for The Mediation Centre and up until 09/10/2015 was a Partner of SALM Mediation and a family mediator with Lupus Mediation. Other roles include working with the homeless, as an editor in the energy industry, as a journalist and as a Private Investigator.
